A restored 1928 house on North 5th Avenue in Tucson: two bedrooms, one bath, 1,028 square feet, room for four. It is a genuine piece of the city's history that someone took care of, and it is small in the way old houses are — comfortable rather than cavernous.

Inside, the living area is bright and well appointed, with plush furniture and a large TV, and there is a sunroom for morning coffee. The kitchen keeps its historic character but the appliances are updated and there is ample cupboard room, so a month of real cooking is no trouble. Central air conditioning and a washer and dryer are here, which is what matters in July.

Out back is the part that sells the place: an enclosed yard with a scenic pond and trees, and a covered porch for eating outside or sitting out after dark.

You can walk to a surprising amount. The Southern Arizona Transportation Museum, the Rialto Theatre, the Tucson Museum of Art and the Children's Museum of Tucson are all within walking distance, and several golf courses, shops and restaurants sit within a 10-mile radius.

Practical details: street parking plus three spots behind the house. Up to two dogs are welcome. The TVs stream, so you will log in with your own accounts. Maintenance is on site on Tuesdays for groundskeeping, so you will see local staff during the week, and your local manager is the person to call when something needs attention.
