A 400-square-foot suite on the second floor, a couple of minutes’ walk from East Beach in Santa Barbara. French doors, a wall of windows and a California king bed — compact, but laid out well enough to live in for a month or more.

The sitting area is flooded with natural light and has a decorative electric fireplace, a comfy armchair for reading and a 32-inch TV. A twin daybed with a twin trundle below adds sleeping space when someone visits. The kitchen side has a mini-refrigerator and freezer, a microwave and a coffee maker.

The complex is small and oceanside, with a sunny communal area of outdoor dining tables, lounge chairs, benches and a barbeque grill — the outdoor room you would otherwise be missing in 400 square feet.

You are one block from East Beach, a block from the waterfront shuttle, and on a bike path that runs along the beachfront, which is how you will get around most days. Downtown Santa Barbara and Stearns Wharf are the same distance away, good for shopping, dining, fishing or the ocean views. Local shops and eateries are closer still, and Sanguis Winery is walkable for tasting sessions.

Some honesty before a long stay. This home is part of an older historical building, and noise may be heard from adjacent units. Elevators are not available and the suite is on the second floor. It is not equipped with air-conditioning, rarely needed with the mild summer temperatures at the beach, and a ceiling fan keeps a breeze going. The home is located near the train tracks (all Santa Barbara beachfront property shares this feature) and the 101 freeway; earplugs are provided for those sensitive to noise while sleeping.
