A 212-square-foot studio one block from East Beach — a two-minute walk to the Pacific. It sits downstairs in the two-story Hitchcock House building, a corner unit with all-new windows and its own private entrance, which is what makes a small space workable for a month or more.

Inside there is a queen bed with a pillow-top mattress, a love seat, a TV and a writing desk. The kitchen side is compact and honest about it: a mini-refrigerator and freezer, a microwave and a coffee maker, with seating on a cushioned bench. The bathroom is fully renovated with a walk-in shower.

The large shared patio is where the rest of the square footage lives. It is outfitted with a table for four and an umbrella-covered table for six, a lounger and benches, and a gas grill — close enough to the produce market that cooking outside becomes a habit rather than an occasion.

You are within a mile of Stearns Wharf and downtown, and walking distance to the Urban Wine Trail, restaurants, unique shops and the pier. Tri-County Produce is a three-minute stroll for local and organic products, East Beach Tacos is a five-minute walk, and the Santa Barbara Zoo — 500 animals over 30 acres — is three blocks from your door. Wine tasting, hiking, kayaking, golf, sunset cruises and museums are all nearby.

A few things to know before a long stay. This studio is part of an older home, so you may hear noises from adjacent units. It is not equipped with air conditioning, which is rarely needed with the mild summer temperatures at the beach. The location is half a block from the rail line and near the 101 freeway, and passing trains may occasionally be heard — earplugs are provided if you are sensitive to noise while sleeping.
