Oscar Mayer House - 1050

The house known as the Oscar Mayer House, built by the Oscar Mayer family, is a three-bedroom, three-bath home of approximately 2,550 square feet in a quiet neighborhood in South Palm Springs. It sleeps eight, holds its Classic '50s architecture honestly, and looks straight out at Mt. San Jacinto.

The living room has two sitting areas, easy access to the outdoors, a 46' flatscreen television with a DVD player, and a fireplace for the cold desert evenings that catch people out. The kitchen is well appointed with kitchen essentials, modern appliances and tile countertops, which is what you want when you are cooking most nights rather than a few. The decor is mid-century modern and still comfortable to live in.

Large glass doors open onto the pool area: a private pool and spa, ample lounge chairs, a gas grill, and those mountain views again. Over a month it becomes the room you use most.

Tahquitz Canyon is one mile west for a morning hike. Downtown is minutes away along Palm Canyon Drive for shops and restaurants, and the surrounding neighborhoods are worth driving slowly if architecture interests you. Parking is allowed on the street and in the driveway, with no more than 3 cars, per city restrictions. There is no cable in the home; the TVs stream, so bring your own accounts. Pool and garden crews visit weekly, so expect to see local staff at the home, and city ordinance requires an in-person or virtual check-in for every reservation, which your local manager arranges with you before arrival.

Outdoor music is prohibited. Music that is played indoors must not be heard outdoors. City ordinance states that any music that is audible from the property line is a violation. People noise during the day is permissible but must be measured and reasonable. Daytime is considered 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.
